Advanced Diploma in Computer Networking and Communications Technology (MOE Ref:EDUN N24-03-924-V1)
Programme Introduction
The Advanced Diploma program is designed to provide you with the technical skills required both to maintain and manage computer systems in a network environment and also to design and develop applications in Internet computing. It is designed to develop knowledge and skills for effective communication in a variety of public and private work environments.
A range of modern developments such as Internet technology, multimedia and distributed systems are also covered. The curriculum focuses on enhancing the communication skills necessary for the development of professional competence and values; critical thinking and problem solving; information utilization; and collaboration. The problem-solving skills you acquire will be put to good use in a professional group project.
Our Advanced Diploma provides you an option to progress on to the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Networking and Communication Technology or Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Engineering Business Management and further to pursuer the Master Degree in Engineering Business Management awarded by Coventry University, UK.
Course Structure
Course Structure
- 202SE Microcomputer Systems--- 202SE Microcomputer Systems ---
Aims to undertake detailed study of microprocessor systems architectures, interfacing and modern systems programming. It includes selection of appropriate microprocessor equipment for a specific task. It also enables students to program a microprocessor to perform a function involving interfacing, within a simulator environment.
- 204SE Digital Electronics--- 204SE Digital Electronics ---
Introduces the basic theories that describe how employees and employers understand their roles and interactions in the organisational settings, and how these assumptions determine how they structure their relationships both formally and informally and therefore how they justify their actions and generate different types of expectations at work.
- 206SE Communications & Networks--- 206SE Communications & Networks ---
Introduces digital transmission, the typical channels over which digital signals are communicated and how these signals are processed. The main elements of communication networks are introduced together with the protocols associated with them.
- 260CT Software Systems Engineering--- 260CT Software Systems Engineering ---
It introduces basic concepts of Software Systems Engineering, covering the full development lifecycle but concentrating on modern iterative process models using object-oriented modelling methods and tools. Thus it explores techniques for requirements engineering, architectural and detailed software design, and follows these through to software implementation and testing. It also gives an overview of project management and software quality issues.
- 210CT Advanced Programming--- 210CT Advanced Programming ---
This module aims to give the student additional insight into object-oriented programming techniques, in the context of data abstraction, structures and algorithms. Inheritance patterns will be explored in implementing and reusing appropriate software components. A range of structured data types will be studied together with construction, traversal and manipulation methods, with appropriate emphasis on efficiency issues.
- 220CT Database Systems--- 220CT Database Systems ---
Provides an insight into how database systems are used commercially. It provides an introductory study of database theory, design and management together with some practical use of a multi-user database management system.
