Overview

Electronics Engineering (Microelectronics) is the area of technology associated with the design and fabrication of electronic devices/systems or subsystems using extremely small components – integrated circuits (IC’s). 
These are extremely small electronic circuits performing intended functions built on semiconducting substrate. Advances in integrated circuits have allowed the development of the technology we are all now familiar with, such as the desktop PC and the iPhone. Microelectromechanical Systems – MEMS – which are fabricated using integrated circuit technology, allow for the automatic screen rotation of these devices.

It’s not easy to juggle job & studies but the lecturers has been helpful & accommodating. The non teaching staff have been helpful in attending to my needs too. Therefore I’m extremely happy with the education & service that Auston is offering me.

What will i learn

This course combines the theory and practice in electronics, microprocessor systems, digital and analogue electronics, communications and digital signal processing, to develop the skills your future employer will highly value.
The final year of the programme allows time to study core subjects in more depth, allow you to match your course to your requirements and interests, and offers breadth with modules such as management and entrepreneurship to develop the required skills for engineering leaders.
You will gain knowledge, analytical and practical capability in engineering fundamentals, electrical and electronic principles, analogue and digital electronics, continuous and discrete signal processing, real-time embedded systems and programming, communication systems, project management and professional skills relevant to careers involving electronics.

Career Opportunities

Electronics Engineering (Microelectronics) Degree holders will be in great demand as they are fully proficient in the use of basic electronics and microelectronics-related equipment, computers systems, and analogue and digital systems.

As the semiconductor industry is one of the fastest expanding industries in Singapore, graduates trained in the microelectronics and electronics field will be highly sought after. They may look forward to jobs in various semiconductor and electronics-related companies which work in:

  • Specifying, designing or implementing electronic systems and technologies
  • Testing and developing electronic systems and technologies
  • Providing technical, hardware or applications support or training
  • Providing technical sales and support of various electronic systems and technologies.

Mode of Delivery

Test/ examination, coursework assignments, presentations and project.

Entry Requirements

Applicants aged 19 years or older are eligible to enter the top-up degree programme with one of the following qualifications:

  • Auston Higher Diploma in relevant field (eg. Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Computers security), or
  • Higher National Diploma (Engineering or Physics), or
  • Mature Candidates: may be admitted on a case to case basis with a minimum of 12 years of formal education and relevant certification that is deemed equivalent by the institute’s Academic Board. Additional measures may be taken to ensure the candidates suitability to the programme.

Applicants whose first language is not English or whose previous qualification was not taught and assessed in English must provide evidence of attainment in English Language by achieving an IELTS 6.0 or an equivalent qualification.

*All applications are subjected to the approval of Birmingham City University.

Course Fees

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee covers university registration, admin fee, tuition fee, study guides and textbook. Auston Institute absorbs FPS and Medical Insurance fee.

  • Programme fee for full-time: SGD 20,900
  • Programme fee for part-time: SGD 19,200

Non-tuition fees:

Non-refundable application fees are as follows:

  • Application fees for Singaporean/ PR: SGD 100.00
  • Application fees International Student: SGD 450.00

* Medical Insurance is excluded for part-time students.
* All fees are subjected to change annually.
